A Diwali hamper for a client does one job: it reminds them, for months after the festival, that you are good to work with. Sweets and dry fruit are part of the tradition, but they are gone in a week. The hampers that work hardest are the ones a client keeps on their desk or carries to meetings.
This guide covers how to choose Diwali gift hampers for clients in 2026, from ₹1,500 to ₹3,600 per hamper, plus the etiquette, gift-policy and tax points that are easy to miss. All prices are per piece from our corporate gift store, before branding and GST.
What clients remember about a Diwali hamper
After a few Diwalis of receiving hampers, most people remember three things:
- Presentation. A rigid box with a fitted foam insert makes a hamper feel expensive before it is even opened.
- Usefulness. A good diary, a quality insulated bottle or a power bank gets used. Decorative items and single-use packaging do not.
- The note. A short, specific message from the person who manages the relationship makes the gift personal.
The brand on the gift matters far less than the people who send it. So keep the branding discreet and put the effort into the box and the note.

Check the client's gift policy first
Many organisations cap what their employees can accept. Banks, PSUs, government bodies, pharma companies and listed firms commonly have gift and hospitality policies that set a value limit or ask staff to declare gifts. Before you send:
- Ask your contact (or check their vendor code of conduct) whether there is a limit.
- Avoid cash equivalents. Gift cards and vouchers are often banned outright where physical gifts are allowed.
- Keep it branded and practical. A diary set with your logo reads as a courtesy, not an inducement.
- Send to the office, addressed by name. Home deliveries can make compliance teams uneasy.
Tax: TDS on gifts to business associates
From 1 April 2026, section 393(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the old section 194R. The rule works the same way: if the total value of benefits or perquisites you give a resident business recipient crosses ₹20,000 in a financial year, you deduct TDS at 10%. For most client hampers in the ₹1,500–₹3,600 range, one gift stays well below the threshold. The risk comes from adding up Diwali hampers, event invitations and other perks for the same client over the year.
GST paid on gifts is also generally not available as input tax credit. Our guide to GST and income tax on corporate gifts explains both rules in plain language for your finance team.
How to brand a client hamper
- Engrave one or two pieces, not all of them. A laser-engraved logo on the pen and bottle is enough.
- Put your brand on the packaging. A printed box sleeve or belly band carries the logo without touching the gift.
- Personalise for the recipient. The client's name debossed on the diary is the single most effective upgrade.
- Write the note by hand for top accounts. Printed notes are fine for the long tail.
Our guide to customised corporate gifts with logo explains which method suits each material.
Delivery timing for Diwali 2026
Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November. Client offices often run with fewer people during Diwali week, so plan for hampers to land between 26 October and 5 November:
| By | Action |
|---|---|
| 5 October | Final client list, budget per tier, delivery addresses |
| 12 October | Mock-ups approved; names confirmed for personalisation |
| 24 October | Hampers packed and dispatched |
| 5 November | Last deliveries before Dhanteras |
Client hamper checklist
- Recipient list split into two or three tiers
- Gift policy checked for regulated clients
- Per-recipient value tracked for the year (TDS)
- Logo files and names sent for mock-ups
- Personal note written for top-tier clients
- Office addresses and contact numbers confirmed

Frequently asked questions
What is a good Diwali hamper for clients?
A hamper the client will use at work after the festival: a multi-piece set with a diary, insulated bottle or tumbler, pen and desk accessories, or a tech set with a power bank and wireless mouse. Present it in a rigid gift box with a handwritten or printed note.
How much should we spend on a Diwali gift for a client?
₹1,500–₹2,500 covers most key accounts; ₹2,500–₹3,600 suits your most important relationships. Check the client's gift policy first, as many banks, PSUs and listed companies cap the value their staff can accept.
Is TDS applicable on Diwali gifts to clients?
It can be. Under section 393(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (which replaced section 194R from 1 April 2026), TDS at 10% applies when the total value of benefits or perquisites given to a resident business recipient crosses ₹20,000 in a financial year. A single hamper below that is usually outside TDS, but track the total per recipient.
Should the client hamper carry our logo?
Yes, but keep it discreet. A small engraved logo on the pen or bottle and your branding on the box sleeve or note card works better than large prints on every piece.
When should Diwali hampers reach clients?
Aim for delivery between 26 October and 5 November 2026, before Dhanteras on 6 November. Many offices slow down during Diwali week, so later deliveries risk sitting unopened in a mailroom.
